Yes. I too always wanted to get involved in activities at school, go to college when I was right out of high school or volunteer ( no not knocking on doors). A lot of us are forever ruined for holidays or birthdays not knowing what to even do and heavy guilt that goes with it. Yep a well rounded social cripple.

Did you ever feel as if you were socially handicapped as a Witness?
by Hiddenwindow insome of my friends claim that growing up as witnesses was a normal experience, in the sense that they did not miss celebrating hollidays or associating with wordly people.
these friends are witnesses in good standing, therefore, i doubt their sincerity and feel that they just do not want to go agaist the party line.
in my case, since i always had the desire to participate in extracurricular activities in school (and did when i could), always felt actracted to politics and art, it was very hard.

Have you made arrangements for your civil funeral?
by digderidoo init may sound morbid, but have you?.
it appears that the funeral of a disfellowshipped person would be, that an elder if he feels that there may be some repentence on the behalf of the person that they would give a funeral, but not at the kingdom hall.. this leads me to think what would i want?
i certainly wouldn't want an elder to give a talk at my funeral.

I really did my whole life, long skirts, sweater sets. Nothing low cut or revealing. My husband did a lot of Dockers and sport coats. I just didn't understand traipsing around a stadium in high heels and a flamboyant outfit was just unseemly to me and still is. And I never believed in putting a baby or small child in a ridiculous suit and hard shoes all day.

Wow, you responded really well. Did she see that you were with your DF'ed brother? That might be something she reports back. Let us know what happens next.

I have not been to a meeting in about 6 months. The weird thing is people are coming out of the woodwork inviting us to things (which was not the case before) we haven't went to any of these events. Do they really think a baby shower or a clam bake is going to change my mind? I still have a few close friends I talk to, that I have things in common with. But for the most part, no, I did not enjoy their company. I don't have anything in common with women with a 5th grade education that home school their 7 kids. My husband did not have much in common with the men their archaic attitude towards women and insatiable appetite for climbing the theocratic ladder. In our area my kids were really odd men out they didn't fit in with the goody two shoes type and they didn't fit in with the bad (cool witness) crowd either. I don't miss most of them one bit.

Yes I do remember 8 day assemblies that had an evening session also. Then you went out in service one of the afternoons ( in a strange city). The circuit assemblies started Friday evening and often in a location that you had to get a hotel room. Pioneer hours were 100hrs for reg. pioneers and 150hrs for special pioneers.

Is it reckless to eat dessert first?
by compound complex ini've heard whispered tales that some daring souls actually do do that.
yes, eat dessert first.
typically, for us middle earth ethnics, the antepasto* is the first course.

I have had dessert first and been unrepentent about like a dog that returns to its vomit ( I mean a girl returning to the apple pie again and again). My favorite time for dessert is a few hours after a nice dinner, I don't like to rush it.

Holidays-nervous about celebrating them but don't understand why.
by QuestioningEverything ini have came to the conclusion that all i learned while growing up as a witness is not the "truth'.
i believe i have become agnostic in a short period of time.
so, this year i decided that we are going to celebrate some holidays.

We have the same feelings. I don't even know "how" to celebrate anything. Cannot be very conspicuous about it because our house is already on watch. I did get a BD cake for someone at work and I broke out in a cold sweat trying to get it from the bakery to the car without being seen. My kids still want to picked up on the days of holiday parties because they say they are "nervous" even though I said it was OK. I'm in the same quandary.

Do you "think" that JW's and Born-Agains are "addicted" to religion?
by booker-t ini must admit i never really thought of religion as an addiction until i was reading a story about a girl that was a strict "pentacoastal" and followed all of the rules of the church until she became fed up with it all and left.
and then she went to an even "stricter" church until her therapist told her that going from church to church is like a new "high".
and when you think of some of the lingo that jw's and born agains use it might just as well be considered an addiction.

A true addiction causes physical symptoms when the substance is withdrawn. But I know exactly what you are saying, maybe more like an obsession that is only relieved by the compulsion to attend meetings, go out in service, study the watchtower etc. I was raised on the idea(threat) that if you don't do this then this bad thing will happen, which is a good definition of OCD. I have a good friend and colleague (not a JW) that told once told me she thought I was religiously preoccupied. She said that JW dictated my every move and monopolized every minute of my life. At the time I viewed it as a compliment even though it wasn't meant as one. We've had a good laugh about it now and I had to admit she was right.

My Brother Is Out Of The Hospital
by Tired of the Hypocrisy inyes, six weeks in the hospital, a few units of blood and some of the worst crap they call food to eat and he is home.... finally!
i posted this about his situation a while back: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/166256/1.ashx.
he was prepared to die in order that we not shun him, even though he has not been "in" the borg for years and is living what they would call a worldly lifestyle.
